BGF is the UK’s leading provider of growth capital to ambitious small and mid-sized companies.
Established in 2011 and backed by five of the UK’s main banking groups including Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, RBS and Standard Chartered, BGF is an independent company with up to £2.5bn with which to make long-term equity investments. They are the UK’s leading provider of growth capital to ambitious small and mid-sized companies, offering a tremendously exciting opportunity for the UK businesses they invest in.
BGF invests in companies that need long-term capital to drive their future success and unlocks the potential of growing UK businesses. BGF was looking for an IT company with robust and realistic expansion plans and a desire to reach for new heights, and found this in GCI. Not only did they invest £10m to support GCI’s growth, they also partnered with GCI to support their own expansion plans.

As a rapidly growing business making investments across the UK, BGF needed to extend its regional presence and securely connect seven offices with access to corporate IT resources and telephony.
To accelerate communications, improve internal and external collaboration and introduce flexibility, BGF also needed a video conferencing and desktop-sharing solution that could be deployed quickly and seamlessly into their environment with minimal training.
Moreover, they needed to ensure that their room-based video conferencing systems (which are business critical to their operational processes) worked effectively in these new offices. GCI’s expert team worked with BGF to design the solution.
As part of their communication solution, GCI implemented a fully-managed wide area MPLS network with hosted firewalls for added security.
In conjunction with installing and supporting an on-premise Lync service, GCI reworked BGF’s whole transit path to ensure reliable and clear video conferencing services across all sites. Hub offices have been supplied with GCI hosted VoIP handsets that are fully managed and monitored by GCI’s NOC, and have been configured to automatically divert to BGF mobiles in the event of an outage to reduce downtime and maintain call connectivity.
Now equipped to instantly communicate with partners, they are collaborating more effectively internally and externally using the HD video conferencing Lync provides. As well as a sharp and clear display, this simplified Unified Communication system means employees are spending less time travelling across sites, and more time desktop-sharing to collaborate effectively. Lync will drive immediate savings in hardware, software and support costs as it is compatible with a variety of devices.
Dee Parekh, IT Operations Manager at BGF commented, “Even external partners can take advantage of most of Lync’s features like the HD video, instant messaging and VoIP using Microsoft’s Web version. We’ve already seen staff benefiting from the rapid collaboration that Lync brings and have found the responsive support from GCI second to none.”
“Lync has provided us with a modern communications system both internally and externally. We are working more productively and taking advantage of the benefits of screen sharing and ‘presence’. I would recommend it to any business, large or small.”Dee Parekh IT Operations Manager
“GCI network specialists thought ‘out of the box’ to address some of our issues and come highly recommended.”Dee Parekh IT Operations Manager
