Leading Managed IT Services Provider GCI, today announces the sale of its Vodafone mobile base to Connect Telecom for an undisclosed sum. It is part of the finessing of GCI’s growth strategy which was re-energised in 2016 and has seen the organisation’s revenue grow by more than 50% in the period ending May 2017.
CEO Adrian Thirkill commented: “This is a very positive step for both Connect Telecom and for GCI. There are some simple drivers behind our decision. Fundamentally it’s about enabling GCI to focus its energies around what we can be really great at, and that’s all about our integrated suite of managed services – cloud, unified communications, security & compliance, network & infrastructure. That said, we absolutely see the need for effective ‘turnkey solutions’ (including endpoints) and the way this deal has been constructed by GCI’s CFO Mark Allen enables us to achieve that by partnering with Connect Telecom for the smartphone aspects where required.
That’s good for us, good for Connect Telecom, and most importantly it is great news for our respective customer bases who will benefit from best-in-class mobility services.”
Scott Ritchie, CEO at Connect Telecom stated: “I agree wholeheartedly with Adrian and share his enthusiasm regarding this transaction. It brings together two really strong and complementary capabilities and, like Adrian, we also believe represents great news for customers engaging with mobility and increasingly prevalent ‘agile working’ policies.”
Scott Ritchie continued: “As one of only a handful of Vodafone Total Communications Partners in the UK and as part of a reciprocal arrangement, Connect Telecom has also committed to a Skype for Business platform from GCI to support our growing unified communications requirements across our substantial 45,000 strong customer base. This enables us to provide a Gartner Magic Quadrant Leading UC service to our customers, and at the same time optimised support for our traditional Vodafone customers (and our newly acquired GCI mobile customers) with the Vodafone suite of services – including One Net. It’s a win: win that has the customer firmly planted at the centre of things.”
