On the 31st October and 1st November GCI were Headline Sponsors at Future Decoded – Microsoft UK’s largest and most influential event of the year. GCI fully embraced the “Digital Transformers” theme; not only did we have a handful of customers collaborating with us to showcase their transformations…but we also had our own Transformer present. Enter Titan – an 8ft robot who wowed the crowds at our stand. But if you weren’t there or couldn’t make all of the sessions, what did you miss?
Artificial Intelligence was a prominent talking point during the event, with our Head of Propositions, Karl Roberts, discussing the age of AI conversational commerce for the next generation of customer service to a packed seminar room. The Microsoft HoloLens also returned to GCI’s stand for a second year, showing visitors how technology is shifting the way we approach planning buildings and cities of the future.
Our first customer session saw us joined by Tracey Jessup, Director of the Parliamentary Digital Service (PDS), who outlined how a Unified Communications solution was assisting members of the UK Government. GCI Group are helping the PDS move its phone system into the Cloud and are in the process of retiring all desktop phones, with all MPs and staff embracing Skype for Business. We’re excited to report that Computerworld UK covered the story, which you can read here. Another GCI customer in the Public Sector who joined us on stage was Mid Kent Partnership. Session speaker Ian Hirst, Head of Digital Services and Transformation described the dynamics of running a shared service across the Borough Councils of Maidstone, Swale and Tunbridge Wells. Ian discussed how legacy ways of working were hindering the organisation but now, thanks to Skype for Business, staff can work flexibly and more meetings can take place virtually.
Next up was Aggreko, a global leader in mobile power stations. Andrew Norrie, Infrastructure Team Lead outlined how GCI, via our Microsoft Enterprise Mobility + Security solution, is helping them to protect all of its devices across 120 global locations. Following Aggreko was Renfrewshire Council; Phil Feeney, Enterprise Architect, and Richmond Howie, Network Transition Manager, described how better technology has been at the heart of its bid to put Paisley forward for UK City of Culture in 2021. Our final guest was Paul Xuereb, Head of Information & Website Systems at Prospect Union – the Trade Union of choice for 141,000 professionals in the UK. Paul explained how the Union has harnessed the power of Skype for Business and Enghouse Interactive Communications Centre (EICC) to drive time efficiencies of 20%, replacing 12 different phone systems across 17 locations with one unified solution. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our speakers, as well as everyone who came to the stand and engaged with us. It was a spectacular few days, and we can’t wait for next year!
