Network Connectivity

Network Connectivity

An organisation’s network connectivity forms the backbone of their operations making the design, delivery and support of this infrastructure critical for all stakeholders. A network that is fit for purpose can improve efficiency for the organisation and potentially solve numerous business issues. Therefore it is important that the customer is at the core of the network design.

By innovatively utilising industry leading networking technologies, such as MPLS, Ethernet, EFM, LLU, DSL and 3G, GCI Com designs advanced, reliable and cost effective networking solutions to meet customers’ technical connectivity requirements and maintain business critical communications. The focus on the customer results in a ‘best fit’ network solution ensuring that all business issues can be addressed. This allows our customers to take full advantage of the technologies available.

MPLS VPN's

A managed MPLS VPN provides businesses with a flexible and scalable networking infrastructure whilst being robust and secure. For organisation’s that have business critical services, need to consolidate legacy infrastructure or have a rapidly changing business landscape, benefits of MPLS can include:

Security - As the traffic on an MPLS network is logically segregated, the network is completely isolated and private removing the need for firewalls at individual sites.

Resilience - with a choice of access circuits and technology, businesses can access the MPLS network via Leased lines, DSL, EFM and Ethernet resulting in last mile resiliency in the event of a primary circuit fault. The GCI Com core MPLS network is built with resiliency in mind and has been tested to ensure the best possible availability and service levels.

Performance - MPLS VPNs support end to end Quality of Service (QoS) which is provided free of charge by  GCI Com and are backed up by Service Level Agreements.

Manageability - By having a Managed MPLS VPN from GCI Com, the customers’ role is significantly simplified. New sites are easily connected as configuration and management of the network is handled by the provider.

EFM

Ethernet First Mile (EFM) is a copper based next generation service offering faster, simpler and more cost effective ways to connect to your home offices, branches and retail outlet stores across the globe.

GCI Com have recently unbundled BT exchanges and heavily invested in the latest EFM technologies resulting in the development of an industry leading EFM product with unmatched speeds, service, and delivery times. Proven to be a practical option for businesses close to the exchange EFM can drastically reduce overheads and delivery lead times can be considerably shorter than for fibre access circuits.

Further benefits include:

  • Bandwidth from 2Mbps to 40Mbps
  • Scalability for a fast and simple migration from lower to higher speeds
  • Easy provisioning as reduced need for replacement hardware when bandwidth is increased
  • Un-contended connection
  • Symmetrical download and upload speeds
  • Rapid deployment
  • Excellent Service Level Agreements

Ethernet

Due to the ever increasing demand for higher performance, additional bandwidth and faster data transfer between locations, we are experiencing constant introductions of revolutionary technology enabling new ways of communication. One of the most prevalent technologies in wide area networking today is Ethernet over fibre. Ethernets increasing popularity, due to its increased availability and cost effectiveness, has allowed businesses to benefit from higher bandwidths, easy provisioning and simplicity of use at a low cost.

Ethernet can be used as a connection onto GCI Com’s MPLS network or as a point-to-point circuit. Either way you will benefit from circuit speeds of up to 10GB, Quality of Service, and Service Level Agreements over the network. The benefits of Ethernet enable businesses to implement solutions that allow the delivery of multiple services over one circuit, such as VPN, VoIP, Audio and  Video conferencing.

Leased Line Connectivity

Leased lines offer dedicated connectivity and guaranteed reliability, making them a suitable choice if your site needs more throughput than a DSL connection can deliver. If your business requires a fixed bandwidth connection to transport data applications, internet or voice traffic leased lines could be the solution.

Leased lines can be delivered over copper or fibre, with the reassurance of market leading Service Level Guarantees, and supporting Quality of Service. They are available in multiples of 2 Mb and deliver you a dedicated speed for your connectivity requirements along with un-contended symmetrical bandwidth.

Private ADSL

The main purpose of ADSL is to connect your main offices to your remote sites through the providers MPLS network. Whereas a Public VPN or IP Sec setup would see the data transferred over the internet through an encrypted tunnel, private DSL does not traverse the internet at all.

Our ADSL service is delivered utilising Opal’s LLU network allowing an extremely resilient and highly flexible non-internet based service.

Public ADSL

Where private DSL cannot be utilised, for example in Kingston upon Hull or where a home user only requires a low cost solution, using an IP Sec tunnel into the MPLS cloud will provide the user or remote office full WAN connectivity.

Wireless 3G

Third generation (3G) is a term used to express the latest generation of mobile telephony services. As second generation (2G) networks develop into third generation systems around the globe, businesses are experiencing the ability to achieve near broadband speeds using mobile wireless technologies. Along with high-speed mobile access, these evolutionary upgrades enable 3G to provide new ways for workers to communicate, to access information and to conduct business.

Therefore, as 3G technologies evolve, this not only means increased efficiency and improved performance of your mobile wireless networks providing greater data speeds and increased capacity for voice and data operations. Advantages of 3G services from GCI Com include rapid deployment, increased bandwidth, and your own personal choice of mobile tariff provider.

Internet Access

GCI Com provides internet solutions from the MPLS cloud or connectivity directly to the internet via a choice of access technologies.

Cloud based internet connectivity

Accessing the internet directly from the cloud frees up head office bandwidth as all of your remote sites access the internet through the core network, thus can reducing bandwidth costs. We provide a managed Unified Threat Management appliance which will ensure the security of your network and your users.

Direct Internet Access

GCI Com can provide you direct access to the internet via a number of access technologies depending on your requirement for bandwidth speed and symmetrical bandwidth. We have unbundled numerous exchanges across the UK, allowing us to offer our EFM product which can provide you with symmetrical bandwidth at a fraction of the cost of leased lines. To confirm whether you are on one of our local exchanges access our LLU checker.
