Requirement: Citrix XenMobile

GreenSquare Group turned to GCI to provide a solution that would enable staff to work on a variety of mobile devices whilst ensuring all confidential data was kept secure.

The Client

GreenSquare Group is a major provider of housing, regeneration, care and support and commercial services. The company was formed in 2008 and has more than 650 users across its sites in Wiltshire, Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire.

GreenSquare required a mobile working strategy which would give its users access to applications and data on any device. However, as a business holding sensitive customer information, the company had a responsibility to ensure that this data was not compromised by unauthorised third-party access should the device be lost or stolen. To address this issue, GreenSquare appointed GCI to design and implement a secure and flexible solution using Mobile Device Management technology from Citrix.

Technical Solution

GCI implemented a 10-user Proof Of Concept (POC) for Citrix XenMobile Enterprise, with configuration of the Mobile Device Management and sandbox application features. The three servers required were configured as virtual machines within GreenSquare’s VMware environment with a Citrix NetScaler Access Gateway VPX providing external access to the infrastructure. Trial licencing of Citrix XenMobile Enterprise was also used, allowing GreenSquare to take advantage of all functionality within XenMobile. The POC was rolled out to the sample of employees using a mix of Apple iOS and Android devices and was completed within the scheduled two-week time allocation to ensure minimal disruption to users.

Success and Company Benefits

Following a successful Proof of Concept, GCI rolled out the Mobile Device Management technology to all of GreenSquare’s users. The solution has provided a secure area for business applications and data, as well as providing easier management and more control for IT staff by standardising the applications used by employees, regardless of their chosen device type. It has also enabled GreenSquare to ensure that a device can be remotely wiped or have its services restricted should this become necessary and integrates well with Citrix XenApp - which was already being used throughout GreenSquare - providing a familiar interface to users and requiring less training for the internal IT team.
