Lush Case Study
Requirement: Server Infrastructure Managed Service
Lush Cosmetics needed a Managed Service specifically for its Server Infrastructure in order to free up its internal team to focus on other projects.
From humble beginnings in Poole in 1995 to a global, household name in the present day, Lush is a manufacturer of skin and hair care products, soaps, bath bombs, makeup and other cosmetics. The company is famed for its vegetarian and vegan recipes, as well as its charity work, firm stances on ethical trading and animal testing, and environmentally-friendly ingredients and packaging.
Converged ICT Services Provider GCI has supported Lush since 2010 by providing escalation support, as well as assisting in a number of IT projects. The company has grown exponentially over the last few years, and continual expansion has stretched the capacity of its IT department. With the decision to concentrate its IT team on end user support and the strategic delivery of its e-commerce-related projects, Lush decided that it required further assistance from GCI, specifically focusing on its server infrastructure and integrating a proactive service on its server environment.
GCI implemented their Fully-Managed Support Service for Lush Cosmetics’ server infrastructure, which offers true 24/7 support and monitoring for their server environment. All essential maintenance is included as standard, including regular server patching, antivirus and firmware updates, and the review, verification and testing of backup jobs.
A number of proactive tasks are also included in Lush’s chosen level of support, including Proactive Watchpoints; a system of preventative maintenance tasks designed to reduce downtime by flagging issues for resolution before they have a chance to negatively impact on business, which are automated to drive down the cost of the service and ensure consistency in execution. Additionally, its service includes 24/7 proactive security monitoring delivered in partnership with security experts AlienVault Labs. Their unique real-time threat intelligence algorithms analyse thousands of pieces of data, proactively searching for, identifying and protecting against emerging threats and vulnerabilities, updated every 30 minutes to keep systems at their ultimate level of protection.
Success and Company Benefits
Having drastically reduced its IT department's workload and freed up key team members to focus on its end user support and the rollout of its e-commerce projects, Lush has a service which not only allows its IT teams to be able to work more strategically, but also proactively monitors its server infrastructure to check for issues that could lead to downtime, something that any company can ill-afford.
James Mikolajewski, IT Manager at Lush, said: “We chose GCI to take on management and maintenance of our server environment as having worked with them for so long, we know that this potentially complex task is one that they can easily undertake. With Lush continuing to grow dramatically year-on-year, we needed to be assured that our internal teams can work on developing our tactical e-commerce projects and not have to worry about the day-to-day running of our server infrastructure - it’s in GCI’s safe hands.”
