Microsoft Partner GCI implemented a Skype for Business solution and enhanced connectivity for Tubervilles Solicitors, delivering Unified Communications benefits such as remote working and advanced collaboration.

The Client

Turbervilles Solicitors is a leading law firm headquartered in Uxbridge with seven further locations situated throughout West London and the Home Counties, and offers a wide variety of legal services to both businesses and individuals. Since 2006, the firm has held the Law Society’s prestigious Lexcel quality mark, which is only awarded to firms which both reach and maintain the highest standards. Also listed in the esteemed Legal 500 and Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession, Turbervilles is one of the most respected law firms in the UK.

The firm was looking to support improved collaboration and flexibility across its multiple sites, as well as with partner organisations. It had already begun this journey through the adoption of a new integrated case management system and Microsoft Office 365; however, Turbervilles’ new approach to work was hindered by its existing legacy PBX system, which prevented the firm from utilising a number of features it required. These included external desktop sharing, external video conferencing, use of multiple devices for voice calls, and the ability to offer home working. The firm needed all communications tools to be accessible from anywhere, and for communications technology to be fully scalable for future growth. Additionally, to fully benefit from the transition, Turbervilles’ existing connectivity needed to be considered to identify whether its current capability was suited to the likely traffic levels.

Having already adopted Office 365, Turbervilles required a voice solution that could fully integrate with it, and was looking for a single partner with the capabilities to implement the entire transition. The firm selected Unified Communications specialist and Microsoft Gold Communications Partner GCI to assist them with this. With a strong background in providing voice solutions, GCI was the ideal partner for Turbervilles.

Technical Solution

GCI identified that the best solution for Turbervilles’ requirements was Microsoft Skype for Business, a Unified Communications (UC) platform that delivers streamlined communications for users. It combines instant messaging, voice over IP, video conferencing and other collaborative features such as desktop sharing, all integrated with the Microsoft suite of apps including Office and Outlook for email. The Skype for Business solution also enabled Turbervilles to move from its expensive traditional ISDN lines to SIP Trunking, seeing calls delivered over IP. This transition to not only made multimedia communications possible, it also resulted in reduced call costs and much greater flexibility for future expansion. 

GCI was also able to provide leading-edge LAN and Wireless solutions to fully support new communications requirements thanks to strong partnerships with partner with network infrastructure specialists Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise and Aruba. The LAN and Wireless networks allowed Turbervilles to take full advantage of its new Unified Communications solution.

Success and Company Benefits

Turbervilles’ new Microsoft Skype for Business solution paved the way for a more efficient and collaborative way of working. It has enabled home working as Skype for Business and Office 365 allows employees to work from anywhere and at any time with the same collaboration capability and communications continuity as if they were in the office, further facilitating the firm’s growth plans.

Skype for Business’s collaboration features also assist colleagues in working on documents together at the same time regardless of location, and Federation allows for easier communications with partners. The solution is both scalable and future-proof, with the new SIP-based telephony system simple to scale up and easy to integrate with future solutions, allowing future growth and technologies. Turbervilles also saw substantial cost savings and ROI from the project due to the economies of scale in using just one partner for the full implementation, leading to a reduction in support costs and time saved with the day-to-day management. Additionally, the transition to SIP significantly reduced call costs.
