GCI secures position on G-Cloud 8

The procurement framework was established to simplify the public sector’s move to cloud services and ensure best value from suppliers.
GCI’s expanded range of familiar and new services available through G-Cloud further strengthens its expertise in transforming public sector services with the introduction of flexible, secure, cost-efficient and highly-resilient cloud technologies.

G-Cloud started in 2012 and is an initiative of the Crown Commercial Service (CCS), forming a major part of the Government’s Digital Marketplace. CCS was formed to improve the quality of commercial and procurement activity across the UK public sector and deliver savings for the taxpayer as Government services are transformed. G-Cloud is one of the foundation blocks enabling that transformation and facilitating the drive for increased efficiency.

GCI’s offerings via G-Cloud embrace a growing breadth of services across the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), and Specialist Cloud Services (SCS) lots on the framework.

Newly-listed services bring additional capability and will enable public sector bodies to take advantage of hybrid cloud models and access the full suite of GCI’s cloud-based unified communications(UC), compute and storage services.

These include Skype for Business, Microsoft Office 365, Contact Centre, end-to-end cloud migration services and GCI’s highly-resilient, enterprise-grade UK secure IaaS solution.

Another new addition is Microsoft Azure virtual machines that allow organisations to take advantage of public cloud, quickly test and deploy applications and flexibly meet changing storage and disaster recovery requirements.

In opening up the Digital Marketplace to SME cloud providers, G-Cloud has gone a long way to driving competition and innovation in public sector IT procurement, delivering better value for taxpayers’ money and improved services.

The benefits that can be delivered by use of G-Cloud are evidenced by a growing range of public sector clients such as Berkshire Healthcare.

Mark Davison, Director of IM&T at Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Using the G-Cloud gave us access to a much broader range of suppliers that we would not have considered had we followed previous procurement approaches outside the framework.
