GCI’s Phil Slingsby to represent Great Britain
30 May 2018
GCI holds core values that revolve around positive attitude, laser focus, “now” speed and that hard work shapes careers, but one of its employees is putting a whole new meaning to them this summer. Yorkshire-based Principal Business Effectiveness Consultant Phil Slingsby will spend mid-July competing in the XV. 2018 UIPM Masters World Championships in Tetrathlon in Halle, Germany.
A true test of character, agility and focus, the UIPM Masters World Championships – which run from the 10th July to the 15th July – are similar to the modern pentathlon, in which each participant competes in four disciplines; swimming, running, shooting and fencing. Phil will be the first person in Yorkshire to compete at this level, representing Great Britain in the individual competition. He has previously competed in Triathlons from sprint distance to Ironman but has more recently turned to the Modern Pentathlon and Tetrathlon.
Speaking about his ambitions to partake in the World Championships, Phil said: “I’ve grown up watching European, World and Olympic championships and I’ve always wanted to represent my country in a sport that I can be competitive in. This is a great opportunity to achieve this in a sport that combines skill, speed and strategy.”
The Union Internationale de Pentathlon (UIPM) has been the international governing body of modern pentathlon since its foundation in London in 1948. UIPM also governs the multi-disciplinary sports Laser-Run, Tetrathlon, Biathle, Triathle and World Schools Biathlon, which have been created as development sports aimed at growing global participation rates in UIPM sports and offering more athletes an entry point to modern pentathlon.
GCI are proud to be sponsoring Phil in his pursuit of this fantastic accolade and wish him the best of luck at the event.
